Giving to UMW

The Geography Department works hard to ensure that students gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in and understand our world.  Student research, internships, and study abroad programs are vital parts of this effort.  Over the past decade generous alumni have helped Geography students afford these activities by establishing two endowments.

Beginning in 2011, funds yielded by the 50th Anniversary Geography Endowment will help students pay for costs associated with study abroad programs and independent research.  Jeff W. Rountree ’91, CEO of the UMW Foundation and president of Eagle Property Holdings LLC, and his wife Lisa pledged the initial funds to establish the endowment in 2009 and many geography alumni have made very generous donations over the past year.  To give to this fund, go to the UMW Foundation Page.  You may give by mail, by phone, or online. Please clearly state that your gift is for the 50th Anniversary Geography Endowment.

The Geography Alumni Scholarship is given annually to a rising junior or senior geography major in recognition of their achievement and contributions to the department. This scholarship was established 2001 by Geography Alumni to honor Professors Emeriti Marshall Bowen, Samuel Emory, James Gouger, and Richard Palmieri.  The combined talents of these four professors helped shape the quality and personality of the Geography Department at Mary Washington. To give to this fund, go to the UMW Foundation Page.  You may give by mail, by phone, or online. Please clearly state that your gift is for the Geography Alumni Scholarship.

Thank you for supporting Geography at Mary Washington!
