Back to Monrovia

Last Saturday I sat through our 99th commencement ceremonies (only my 13th). As all 1000 graduates’ names are read, I passed the time in various ways (My apologies to any alum who thought all faculty paid rapt attention through the ceremony).  Some of the time I just enjoyed the beautiful but … Read the rest

Spring??? . . .. . Spring!!!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I haven’t posted in a while because, to be quite honest, it has been a difficult winter for Mary Washington Geography.  While our first blizzard was fun, and the second blizzard marked this as an unusual winter, the third had us running for the hills . . . almost literally.

On February 9, Jackie Gallagher, Joe Nicholas, and their physical geography students noticed what we’ve called the Monrovia sag.  The weight of the snow caused one of the beams … Read the rest
