Sarah McNeal (2011) and Afton Jenkins (2011) for winning UMW Writing Center Awards for their senior seminar papers. I’m proud that Sarah and Afton are continuing what has become a tradition for Geography Majors. I can’t think of more than one year in the last decade in which a student enrolled in one of our classes did not win this award.

The McIntire School of Commerce at UVA will hold an info session for students interested in earning an M.S. in Commerce. The degree is designed specifically for liberal arts and science majors interested in leveraging their career with a business edge and features a month of study to Europe, China or Southeast Asia. Penny Anderson (MWC 1990) just informed me that Michelle Howe Pearson (MWC 1991) was recently named Colorado Teacher of the Year! Michelle majored in geography and history while also fulfilling her teaching certification requirements at Mary Washington. Congratulations to Michelle!
I should also note that Penny Anderson was named a Brown Fellow at the Library of Virginia this past summer. A belated congratulations to Penny as well!… Read the rest
