The Start of Another Year

Samuel T. Emory

It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Distinguished Professor of Geography, Samuel T. Emory. Sam was the first geographer at Mary Washington College and founded the Geography Department at Mary Washington College shortly after his arrival in 1959. By the time he retired in 1997, his department had grown to six faculty members.
