Wow!  Thanks to all of you for such a great response to my invitation!  Within the first 18 hours, over 140 Mary Washington Geographers joined the site.  I’m sure we’ll hear from more of you in the coming days.

Almost a decade ago, I was driving through the mountains of Eastern Kentucky when this tune came over the radio. The Troubadours painted a comic but sympathetic picture of this iconic American Landscape.

Between Change?

Change is the word of the presidential election so far. Everybody is a candidate-for-change. Change the economy. Change Iraq. Change ‘broken Washington.’ Of course, every election features candidates-for-change. It’s just harder to figure out what it means when nobody runs on the status quo.
